Most small business owners fail to understand the impact that Social Networks can have on their bottom line.  If they understood, they would be using Social Networks over any other marketing channel.


This page will give you a quick overview of how using Social Networks can create trackable revenue channels. We will discuss analytics, how to use Social Widgets with your site, and many other aspects and insights into Social Marketing.  But let's first take a look at how to grow your Fan Base quickly.


For this discussion were going to use Facebook as our target social network.  On FaceBook you can grow your followers (who are actually potential customrs) by one of two ways.  Either by attracting them through friends and family, or by using a small and very affordable display ad.

These little ads can be created in minutes. They are usually located on the left hand side  of your Facebook page. 

 

Just look for [ Sponsored create an ad ] segment right above the current ads.

 

 


 

 

 

 

First step, always include a LIKE button at the bottom of every ad you run.

Write short copy, testing different images and targeting different interests. Be a little creative. Don’t make it complex – keep the language casual, as if a friend was telling you about something they like or think is cool.


Just to give you an example how effective and affordable this channel can be, a recent post got 631 fan for 95 cents. That’s not a typo.  How's that for lead generation  - 631 potential customers for  just 95 cents. 


This doesn’t take into consideration the Fans they got from users who then clicked on the LIKE Page, or the viral users that they got when Friends of Fans participated on their wall, because they saw in their news feed that their friend just became a fan.

 

 

Tip #1- Don’t send them to your website, which unfortunately would eliminate your ability to get a LIKE from the ad.  You see when someone clicks on a LIKE button they instantly become a Friend of your Fan Page, which attaches to the ad.  This means they become a Follower and a prospective customer at the same time.  If you send them to your website, clicking the LIKE button now means they like the ad, not the page. You lose them as a friend and you have no easy way to market to them in the future. 

 

 

 

Tip #2 - Which brings us to creating an incentivized LIKE Page. Something that's really powerful about Facebook is that it allows you to show one thing to people who are Fans and Followers, and something else to those who are not.  Studies show that incentivized LIKE Pages 2-3 times more Fans come in than the typical landing page. 

 

 

 

Tip #3 - Do not send fans directly to your Wall. 

Send them to your incentivized page. The reason is simple - your wall is full of the last bunch of random things you and your friends have said to each other.

 

Think about it. There's no marketing message there. You’re Wall is just not going to convert into any sales. Instead, change your default landing tab to point to your incentivized LIKE Page. 

 

The fact is, human nature being what it is, your fans are going to visit your incentivized page and then head over to your Wall any way to see what's being said and how many followers you have.  It's just who we are and how we work! For better or for worse, Facebook users judge how trustworthy you are by how many fans you have and how many of their friends are also fans. So increase your fan count through all means available.

 

Tip #4 - Don't be lazy, we all have become accustomed to set-and-forget ads.  Studies show that ads will often fall by 50% within 24 hours.  Also, keep in mind that the smaller your target, the faster your ads burn out.

 

Tip #5 - Protect your budget when you throw an all your ad campaigns into a single account.  It becomes very easy for a single bad ad to gobble up your entire budget very quickly.  So break up your ads into different accounts, place your proven performers in a high budget account, and place the ads you are still testing in a low budget account.  Keep the two separated and you will protect your bottom line.
