Selecting a firm or consultant can be tricky, select only firms/consultants that are fully transparent about how they spend your marketing dollars. As part of your agreement, make sure they will teach you all the required steps (best practices) for a successful online distribution campaign. This undoubtedly will become invaluable to you when it comes to organizing future campaigns.
This also serves to help you understand how much of the budget is being committed to true marketing vs. their campaign management fees. I'm always suspicious of firms/consultants that try to keep their clients in the dark when it comes to the tactics that they're using and the way they're spending the money. Like there protecting top secret insider information.
Become educated. Are you more knowledgeable today in the skills of internet marketing than you were six months ago? Hopefully the answer is yes. Always insist on understanding from your outside marketing firm/consultants what marketing services are being planned and why.
