Businesses are beginning to realize the value of the
World Wide Web; both big and small companies are beginning
to appreciate the benefits of search engine optimization.
No matter if you're trying to market your business
across your town or even across the nation there is
no substitute for good organic search engine ranking.
As in most things in life and on the Internet, there
are a number of decisions that have to be made and
all of which, will affect the level of success you'll
have. One of the biggest challenges you'll face is
going about finding the best solution for optimizing
your web presence.
Anyone in business and even individuals can achieve
reasonably high rankings through a number of free
resources which can be found on the Web. With a little
SEO consulting and a lot of time invested, you can
produce effective and somewhat impressive results.
SEO isn't quantum physics, however you need to be
marginally adapted at understanding the basic principles
needed to properly optimize even the smallest and
simplest sites.
The free resources that you find on-line are there
basically to get you started. (Depending on the sources)
In most cases their good places to begin for the small
business owner. However a good SEO consultant should
be contacted after the initial optimization effort
is underway to ensure you're not inadvertently making
any significant mistakes.
Free resources are free for a reason. The reason is
that they are seldom complete enough to offer the
in-depth details and knowledge that is necessary to
rank well for competitive terms. This makes SEO consultants
a bargain for small-business owners as they finish
all the little fine touches on the website and make
sure the optimization components are in proper place.
This is how many small-business owners successfully
achieve respectable rankings for their web site. Unfortunately
experience has proven that few small business owners
have the time to perform the work necessary to rank
well on today's search engines.
From keyword research, content writing, Meta tags
and back link development to reporting and adjustment
of multiple parameters, SEO is a time consuming task.
This is probably the reason why most small-business
owners hire firms or consultants to perform their
Optimization needs. Unfortunately putting someone
on the payroll full-time isn't within their budget
either.
For the Midsize Company and all the way up to large
corporations, there are usually two options open to
them, to either hire someone in-house or contract
a SEO firm.
Companies tend to lean toward hiring in-house SEO's
for two main reasons.
The first is the reduced cost of services and the
second is that they fall for the mistaken belief that
they will gain better control over their optimization
efforts. The first reason is valid, as many SEO firms
are really SEM firms in disguise, and will treat optimization
as a perpetual, ongoing investment like PPC.
However, be where there are SEO firms that often want
to contract businesses for extended lengths of time
with ridiculous penalties for opting out early.
They also tend to charge exorbitant monthly or bi-weekly
fees that might lead some clients to wonder if they’ve
mistakenly contracted with a Manhattan or Fifth Avenue
SEO firm.
Believe me when it comes to SEO, it's not cheap but
you don't have to mortgage the farm to pay for a good
SEO firm. Finding the right SEO firm to suit your
needs and budget can be accomplished with a little
searching.
As for companies having the false sense of better
control over their optimization efforts, this is simply
old school tactics from the 1980's traditional business
model. Unfortunately it doesn’t stand up to
the information critical age we live in today.
Hiring an SEO in-house because you feel that having
him or she at arm’s length is an advantage is
a mistake. Studies have shown that in house workers
tend to be less productive than an off property worker.
SEO requires a team effort. A SEO guru is not a content
writer, developer, programmer or designer. He or she
is a submission specialist. Yes there are some firms
that would like you to believe they have the advantage
by having these other specialists all under the same
roof.
However that just falls under the heading of propaganda.
I have been contracting as a SEO consultant for many
years now. The advantage I have over SEO firms is
that I can reach out to the very best content writer,
developer, programmer or designer in the world. I
don't have to accept the limitations of an existing
in House work force. I have taken the time to cultivate
a good working relationship with the very best in
their field.
This is why a competent SEO consultant will always
be able to provide far better service than an in-house
individual or even a SEO firm.
Staying on top of changes to search engine algorithms,
setting and adjusting Meta tags, designing search
engine friendly navigation, writing well optimized
content and building back links through multiple means
is what I do!
