For my clients and me web site traffic needs to be a little more defined.  Web site traffic is the number of visitors who visited a specific web sites / URL measuring and how many times those unique visitors view of specific pages, or sometimes called page views. This indicates the popularity of the specific web site and pages within that web site.  However this can be misleading.  High web site traffic is useless if it doesn't convert visitors into sales.

This is where website analytics come in.  By using a good analytic software you can determine if your visitors are predominantly first time visitors or return visitors as well as what keywords they used to find your website, which pages they are visiting and how long they stay on each of those pages.  Keep this in mind; any web site traffic is basically useless if it consists predominantly of one time visitors who fail to stay long enough to make an inquiry or purchase.
